The process of understanding knowledge is science of a kind. A definition of science makes the concept of acquiring knowledge a field of science that should be studied as a discipline. That definition of science states “knowledge or a system of knowledge covering general truths or the operation of general laws especially as obtained and tested through scientific method”. In philosophy, the study of knowledge is known as epistemology (the study or a theory of the nature and grounds of knowledge especially with reference to its limits and validity).
For every knowledge, there has to be prove of its authenticity or its real reality. Whether a knowledge is accurate and or inaccurate is depended on some components that I’ll identify under this subtopic. I’ll prefer to say a proffered formula that will cut across every form of knowledge.
No knowledge is accurate by the mere fact the one promulgating it is perceived to be knowledgeable. Can the knowledge be tested with every other forms (idea and perception) of knowledge in relation to its form (idea and perception) of a similar nature?
In the early 19th century Jean-Baptiste Lamarck (1744 – 1829) proposed his theory of the transmutation of species, the first fully formed theory of evolution. In 1858 Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace published a new evolutionary theory, explained in detail in Darwin's “On the Origin of Species” (1859). These men promulgated these form of knowledge that actually enlarged scientific intellectuality. However, testing the form (the idea/perception of evolution) with other forms (the idea/perception of procreation, pollination & cross-pollination and or fertilization) is the form evolution accurate or inaccurate? Even till today the answer to this question may yet lay in inaccuracy on the mind and in the heart of some. Even though scientifically knowledgeable, some are still covered by a shadow of scientific Illiteracy.
The churches of Christendom embraces doctrinal knowledge of varying forms. The doctrine of hellfire, trinity, all good persons going to heaven to mention but a few. What is the accuracy of these forms of knowledge? Adherents of these form of knowledge will argue for the accuracy of such knowledge without looking at other (a God of love, how many makes the head of a family, why the perfect man Adam was placed on earth, etc) biblical forms of knowlege. Even though biblically knowledgeable, some are still covered by a shadow of biblical Illiteracy.
There is no knowledge gained in isolation of other forms of knowledge. So we can speak of systems of knowledge and nested looped systems of knowledge. When an information passes through the brain, does it automatically become knowledge? No! That information has to come through the mind process (or what I’ll want to call meditation). The human brain is complexly designed to carry out this process even beyond four dimensional way. Lets dwell a little on cognitive skill. When an information gets into the brain, the likelihood that the individual can relate it to other information is known as cognitive skill.
"The accuracy of knowledge is in sampling it with every other form of knowledge that have been accurately understood in relation to similarity in nature". Once knowledge gets into the brain, the brain goes to work to ascertain the main idea (the true nature) of the form of knowledge. The brain searches for other forms of knowledge that is similar in nature to the new knowledge. This is where the science of perception comes to play.
Which division (and subdivision) of understanding will it be grouped as a form of knowledge? Is it science (natural, medical or social), physiology, psychology, etc. Understanding the accurate nature of any form of knowledge is contingent on the wealth of accurate understanding of previous forms knowledges stored in the brain cells, memory.
We make reference to “mental vision” or “minds eye” but what really is mental vision. To understand mental vision we need to take up another form of knowledge accurately understood that is similar in nature. Does your mind take you to optical vision? How does optical vision work?
The visual system in humans allows individuals to assimilate information from the environment. The act of seeing starts when the lens of the eye focuses an image of its surroundings onto a light-sensitive membrane in the back of the eye, called the retina. The retina converts patterns of light into neuronal signals. The lens of the eye focuses light on the photoreceptive cells of the retina, which detect the photons of light and respond by producing neural impulses. These signals are processed in a hierarchical fashion by different parts of the brain, from the retina to the lateral geniculate nucleus, to the primary and secondary visual cortex of the brain. Signals from the retina can also travel directly from the retina to the Superior colliculus.
How does it relate to mental vision? It's all coming up on my book project “When Knowledge is Illiteracy”
We are all illiterates to the knowledge we do not have. We are only knowledgeable to the science of Knowledge we are exposed to.
