Observe a beaming ray of light, how it impacts on object to give different shades of colors. At different angles with the same ray of light on the same object surface, you see different shades of colors as a result of the object pigmentation. This keeps happening as you change angle of view. This is known as iridescence.
Same happens with gaining insight. Insight (the ability to understand people and situation in a very clear way) is not the possession of all humans. Insight is at the core of settling dispute amicably. Insight is the basis of understanding the nature of people, culture and, places. Insight is the reason good personal qualities are cultivated and maintained.
Insight is all about diverse mental lights (knowledge) transmitted into the brain. These transmitted mental lights intensifies as we desire and insist on understanding why, when, how, what, who, true or false, good or bad, start and end, possible or impossible, hot or cold, soft or hard, etc. Like light rays, there are array of ideas, information, instructions, sights and sounds that are absorbed in the brain (cerebrum).
Modern neurosciences have attempted to equate the human brain to modern a computer. Neuroscience estimates that the human brain can store up to 2.5 million gigabytes of information. That could actually be limiting the brain. The brain weighs about 3 pounds and contains around 100 billion neurons — cells that carry information. What volume of information can be transmitted and processed by a single neuron cell. A staggering thought? Suffice to say that in as much as neuroscience has help us evaluate the capacity of the human brain, we are yet to understand the full capability of the human brain.
Light iridescence requires light, surface and, pigments that creates impressive colors to the sight making us drawn admirably to the object. Similarly, Insight iridescence requires light in form of knowledge, neurotransmitters, the cerebrum to draw informed opinions, make informed decisions, speak and act in clear understanding of any idea.
Pigments of previous knowledge works on new light ray of information that gets transmitted into the cerebrum rationalized from different angle to form our disposition.
Let us consider the symphony inIridescence of insight – (i) new light of knowledge, (ii) pigments of previous knowledge that bear on the new, (iii) intellectual capacity to rationalize new and old knowledge to reach proper understanding, and (iv) the will power to be insightful.
KNOWLEDGE ABSTRACTIONISM: Abstractionism is the principle or practice of creating and understanding abstract art or knowledge. The first stage of insight iridescence is doing to knowledge what light does to surfaces to create those brilliant color hues. Is just a knowledge of a particular idea enough or we desire the overall character or appearance of an idea? We stave our minds when we only have a partial knowledge of what is acquired. When our minds are fed with just information on the surface, we start loosing our self worth.
Gaining knowledge is like eating a meal. We tend not to feel satisfy when we simply rush through a meal. How much knowledge is adequate, how do get and assimilate it to make right decisions, to understand accurately, to act reasonably, to overlook someone’s mistake and not to be angry.
Like abstract paintings, abstract knowledge gives a wide array of angle of reasoning. However, there will be little or no understanding if abstract knowledge is not related to real mental pictures in the brain cells. The brain keeps stacks of previously processed knowledge, right and wrong conclusions/decisions reached, opinions, actions and reactions over the years of life experience.
Some form of knowledge are like real life paintings. Its easy and quick to get the sense of such knowledge. However, if we do not take such real life knowledge into abstract knowledge, we may not be able to draw from it another time. This is because the brain codes knowledge before stacking it. This is where meditation works to help the brain code the knowledge for future usage.
There is voluntary and involuntary reflections. Voluntary reflections are what is referred to as meditation while involuntary reflections are referred as dreams. There are moments when voluntary and involuntary reflections interacts. You may have observed having a dream that tends to solve a certain puzzle you struggled with during your active moments in the day, then it takes you to wakefulness from your night sleep. You now consciously engage your faculty, reliving the dream this time consciously. Most writers will attest how very often they are awoken by a trans of thought that gives clarity to an idea they desire to put down in writing.
Once coding has taking place in the brain you need make up your mind what you want to do with the coded knowledge. The brain will always code knowledge and information. The computer system keeps information in binary form. Certainly computer scientist mimic the brain system in developing the computer system. So its obvious the brain does not store knowledge and information in the raw form we get them. Depending on the complexity of an information, the brain can code it immediately or later. This explains why we tend to get things clearly understood when we are more relaxed.
Computer language is binary. Taking a discipline in computer science, students make the effort to study and understand binary computer language. When knowledge or information comes in abstract form, we struggle to understand it. It could likely be that brain language is abstractionism. Very likely when raw knowledge or information is taking into the brain, it converts then to abstracts. So we can speak of abstract intellectualism. A more retentive and collective memory is one that is able to translate knowledge or information from the brain language to raw and from raw to the brain language, abstractionism.
If this can be done does not mean one has insight yet. Don’t forget this is just one of the four part symphony in iridescence of insight. Lets consider the second.
KNOWLEDGE PIGMENTARY: Light interacts with the pigment of an object to produce beautifully hued impressive colors. New set of knowledge interacts with previously coded knowledge or information. Its more like how the literal eye functions. You see an object only when the light from an object enters you eye and beams back at the object. Or think of making a search on google. Every previously stored information is pulled up so you can find the information that best soothes your desired search.
Previously coded knowledge through forethought and meditation interacts with newly acquired knowledge to develop understanding of the newly acquired knowledge. The brain sets to increase understanding as desired. Think of the extent of coded abstract knowledge that is involved as impulses moves in the brain cell to reach an understanding.
It is often said no knowledge is a waste or insignificant and that’s true. Try and comprehend why there are over nine planets in the Milky Way galaxy but only one can keep life sustained. Why there are several thousands of galaxies in the universe but only the Milky Way galaxy has a planet that sustains life. There is some form of inter connectivity between the celestial bodies. Same is true of all forms of knowledge we’ll ever gain. We may not see their value in our daily life’s immediately. They will either help us to distinguish between accurate and inaccurate knowledge.
KNOWLEDGE INTELLECTUALISM: Simply acquiring knowledge does not in itself make one intelligent. There has to be understanding of set or sets of knowledge. As has been discoursed in the later subheading, the brain pulls up previously coded knowledge and compares which of these codes best fits the newly acquired knowledge to develop understanding. Once understanding sets in, the brain creates a link between knowledge and understanding. That link is intelligence. However, there is no intelligence when knowledge and understanding are not exercised.
There should be strong attachment to the sets of knowledge gained and accurate understanding reached such that it becomes the force actuating our minds. We become naturally inclined to act intellectually, in a manner that befits accurate understanding.
The human brain is naturally designed to normalize whatever is made a concern repeatedly over a long period of time. Intelligence should be perceived from an individuals actions and utterances. We can refuse to show ourselves to be intelligent for selfish reasons. Intelligence does not make us robots. Intelligently, we go back into our stack of information in the brain cells to rationalize on the best form of approach to put forth under the obvious situation. Now note “stack of information” in the brain cell. What if there are no previously stacked information on the obvious situation in our brain cell? This is when we turn to someone else for advice or not able to rationalize advice given us. We can easily be gullible at this point. Just to have an informed opinion, it will be advantageous to seek additional advice or make additional research. As you do this you’re building your brain power. The next time you face related situation, you will have had sufficient information “stacked in your brain cell”.
KNOWLEDGE INTELLECTUAL ACTUATION: What knowledge, understanding, perception actuates your actions or reactions and decision or indecision? What drives the kind of emotions you exude? We sometimes remark that someone is highly emotional. In as much as we may not want to fault that, as its in the individual’s nature, its good to understand why the high emotion and over what. Understanding the knowledge we acquire as it relates to every aspect (insight) of our life’s, actuates our mood, behaviour, actions and reactions, the way we want to relate with people.
Having more insight is fun and engaging. It gives your brain a great lift of dopamine from the novel connections. It helps energize you to get things done, and helps people unlock some of life’s toughest puzzles. The trouble is, we have to get used to letting our non-conscious brains do the work. Relax, let go, and you might find a whole world of new insights emerging.
That said, there are times when someone with relative knowledge does not act intelligently. What could have happened? At times there is a conflict between what we know and our emotions as well as our desire. Emotions and Desires does to knowledge what pain relieving drugs does to pain. They suppress every form of understanding acquired to counteract a giving situation. To act intelligently, we must deliberately put an effort to win the conflict between knowledge understood and our emotions as well as our desires. That is where the real challenge is, that is why intelligence is not the possession of many.
There are times we may be reminded to conduct ourselves intelligently but we’ll bluntly refuse. It could be because of pride, not wanting to accept defeat or feelings of worthlessness.
So we may ponder what is the motive of acquiring knowledge. The majority acquire knowledge simply to fit into a certain class or for selfish gain. The volume of knowledge gain does not in it self suggest the individual will think, reason or act insightfully. We need find the motive behind thinking and acting insightfully. Therefore, consider the incentive towards thinking, reasoning and, acting with insight.
THE CANVASS REFLECTION – Very often in any situation, we are not driving to consider the feelings of the other person. However, reverse is the case when we are in the position of the person whose feelings we did not consider. So we disregard acting insightfully because of pride and selfishness. Why could we not recall how it felt when it was you that desired your feelings and disposition to be considered.
In whatever situation we find ourselves we have a canvass before us, its left to us to decide whether we’ll be mindful to leave on it what will show us to have thought, decided and, acted as one having insight.
It takes deliberate effort to act insightfully. What mitigates acting insightfully is egotism, hatred, jealousy and envy, superiority complex, etc.
Beam of knowledge travels from diverse place, we analyse them for clarity of purpose. We need not stop there. The value of knowledge gained and understand should actuate in us speeches, decisions, and actions that is reflective of the symphony in iridescence of insight.
